Rain Sensor/Smart Sprinkler Legislation

On January 16, 2024, Governor Phil Murphy signed legislation into law, A-1755 McKeon/S-2505 Smith, as Public Law 2024, Chapter 299 that requires those with an automatic lawn sprinkler system to install an automatic rain sensor or smart sprinkler for water conservation purposes. An operational automatic rain sensor is defined as a device or switch that will override the irrigation cycle of the automatic lawn sprinkler system when adequate rainfall has occurred or a smart sprinkler.
